Frequently Asked Questions

What time of year is Four Winds Farm available for rental?

We are open July – October, but our prime wedding season coincides with our fall foliage season. That means that from Labor Day weekend through the end of October we offer both Barn and Hill House packages and multi-day events. During July and August we offer only Barn Packages, which are single day offerings.

Do you have availability for 2024?

Yes, we just opened up July and August for single-day events (the Barn Package) and we still have a few weekends available for Fall.

What availability do you have for 2025?

Please check out our availability page and email for more information.

Can I book later than 2025?

Yes – please email for dates after 2025.

What does the Barn Package include?

The Barn Package includes use for one day from 9am to 9pm. You get the Barn, the Cottage Guest Rooms, parking, access to all of the ceremony locations, a staging room for caterers, and use of the exteriors/surrounds of the Hill House for photography or your ceremony.

What does the Hill House package include?

The Hill House package is an overnight/multi-day use of the property which combines the Barn package with the exquisite lodgings at the Hill House. The Hill House is comfortably furnished and perfect for the couple, their guests and family. The Hill House has 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms (3 queen beds and 2 twins). There is a large kitchen, a fireplace, and a dining room.

Also included is the Log Cabin, a small quaint lodging that is just steps from the Hill House. It includes a queen bed and two hideaway cots. The rustic cabin has a fireplace, a kitchen, and uses an outhouse and outdoor shower.

Events at the Barn still must end at 9pm due to town noise ordinances, but you may continue your celebrations in the Hill House.

Can I rent extra days in the Hill House?

Yes, extra day rentals of the Hill House are $1500/night. Inquire for availability.

Can I tour Four Winds Farm?

Yes, we offer tours year round upon appointment only. Please email us to schedule your tour.

I'm ready to book! How do I secure my date?

Email us to confirm that your date is still available. To secure your date you must fill out our reservation form, review and sign our contract and then send a check for your deposit. With contract and deposit the date is yours!

What methods of payment can I use?

We prefer to be paid with check.

Why do I need a wedding planner?

To book our venue you need a wedding planner or a day-of-event-coordinator who has experience. The person you designate does not need to be a paid professional, but must be someone who has planned and organized an event before.

Your wedding planner is the point person you’ve designated to communicate with us during your event and also coordinate with your caterers, toilet delivery, tent rentals, table and chair setup, and all the other behind the scenes tasks.

Trust us, you will be too busy on this important day – so choose someone who can really handle the organization, the pressure, and the potential mishaps that occasionally do happen. If you have a catering company, there may be someone on staff who can do this role.

Check out our vendor page for local planners if you choose to hire someone.

What are my catering options?

Four Winds Farm is rented as just the venue, so you must provide your own catering.

Can I do a potluck? YES!

Can I do a food truck? YES!

Can I do a catering company? YES! We have a staging room where your caterers can set up the food to deliver plates for a sit-down dinner. You can also do a buffet style in the Barn. We do not have a catering kitchen, so any cooking on-site will need to have a built-out kitchen by your caterers.

Can we do a pig roast or BBQ? YES! Inquire about options.

Can I have my catering company use the kitchen at The Hill House? No, unfortunately, the kitchen in the house is just suitable for smaller dinner parties and personal use. If you cater a large event outside of the Hill House, the catering company can use the garage for staging.

Check out our vendor page for local catering companies.

What's the deal with renting toilets?

We are a very old property and our septic system cannot handle wedding-sized events, so you will need to rent toilets for your event. We have several local options that drop off and pick up for reasonable prices. You can go fancy or keep it simple!

Check out our vendor page for local rental companies.

Because we only host one event per weekend, you can have your toilets dropped off on Friday before the event and picked up on Monday, even if you are just doing a one day event. Please inquire about early/late vendor dropoffs.

Should we rent heaters?

Heaters are recommended as a rental for your wedding. Our barn is not winterized, and while we have two large fireplaces, this part of New Hampshire still can get cold unexpectedly. You can have your catering company handle heater rentals, and the number you rent depends on the way you choose to set up your event.

Check out our vendor page for local rental companies.

Do you provide tables and chairs?

Yes, we supply a baseline number of tables and chairs.

Tables: We offer the use of ten 72″ round folding tables included in the Barn package. These tables can seat 10 people. We also have a few other long tables that can be used for food setup and bar.

Chairs: We offer the use of our collections of 125 chairs included in the Barn package. This includes a set of 55 folding chairs which have a white fabric cushion (and cannot be set up outside if there is a chance of rain). There is a set of wooden folding chairs (antique) and a dozen painted antique dinner chairs.

You are welcome to rent different tables and chairs and have them delivered. If you will be needing more than 125 chairs, you may need to rent more, but inquire with us to confirm.

You will be able to set up tables and chairs in any way you decide, and will be responsible for changing the set up throughout the event. We do not have a staff on hand to move tables/chairs during your event.

What kind of decor do I need to provide?

The Barn is dripping with antique charm and authentic regional relics. It is well-lit with market lights and charming sconces and you have the option to add Chinese lanterns if you like.

However, you will need to provide all linens, tablecloths, dish-ware, silverware, cups, barware, vases, and floral arrangements.

Do you provide a sound system?

We do not have a sound system, so you will provide whatever you need for music, dancing, or a band. Please let us know what your plan is prior to arrival.

How late can we party?

Music and other amplified sounds must be quieted by 9pm to abide by the Peterborough noise ordinance, as well as consideration for our neighbors.

Please party responsibly and have guests consider a designated driver in order to ensure a safe event.

If you have rented the Hill House, your wedding party can continue to socialize up the the hill, but please keep the volume reasonable as we have neighbors.

Where can my guests stay?

You can book our Hill House package for some of your guests, but that probably won’t be enough for everyone. There are many cute hotels, inns, and B&Bs in the region… and of course you’ll want to check out Airbnb & VRBO.

Check out our vendor page for other local lodging.

Can my guests camp at Four Winds Farm?

YES! Inquire with us for recommendations of where your guests should put their tents. And of course, due to our neighbors, guests will need to keep volume reasonably quiet after 9pm.

Check out our vendor page for other local campsites.

Do you have a list of preferred vendors?

While we do not have preference, we have compiled a list of local vendors that to get you started. Please make your best judgment when choosing your vendors, as these are not recommendations, just a list of options. Also, be sure to check with each company to make sure they serve the Peterborough area.

Check out our vendor page.

Do we have to clean up?

Clean up expectations are that you and your vendors will leave the venue in acceptably clean conditions. We hire an outside cleaning crew after your event, but we expect that the space will be left in a similar shape to how you found it upon arrival.

Trash from your event should be left in a dumpster we will provide for you. We will have separate bins for recycling to be used for your event.

Your deposit will be returned if these conditions are met, and if any damages exceed the $500 deposit, we will send you an invoice.

Do we need a licensed bartender?

In terms of alcohol, you choose how to serve it to your guests, and please adhere to all state laws.

Can we work out early drop-off or arrival times?

We offer generous setup and cleanup windows for each package. However, if you have a question about a setup or clean up exception, please inquire with us and we will be flexible if schedule allows.

Can I do a non-wedding event?

We consider non-wedding events upon request at other times of the year. Please inquire at events@fourwindsfarmevents.com about any fundraiser dinners, memorials, or family reunions.

Our Barn is not winterized so we only offer these based on season and availability.

Who lives at Four Winds Farm?

We (Ian and Bri) live in the Hill House most of the year, but we move out for our fall wedding season to make the home available for wedding rentals. We reside in an apartment under the barn during the fall to better attend to the needs of our clients.

We also have a longterm tenant who lives on the property in a building adjacent to the events space – their living area will be clearly marked as “private” should any guests wander off. Please respect their privacy.

Do you have animals at the farm?

YES! We are happy to be hosting Wagyu cows for the local farmers at New England Wagyu. Check out their website to learn more!

In the future we hope to cultivate more relationships with local farmers to provide more for our community. Please contact us if you are an interested farmer!

Can I still buy meat & dairy from Four Winds Farm?

Dancing Ground Farm previously rented our barns and fields, but have retired to Puerto Rico!

You can no longer purchase meat or dairy at our farm, and our old farm store has been converted into an art studio.

Be sure to check out where you can buy the local Wagyu beef from the farmers who are currently renting our fields.
